fine art

As a professional artist, Chris Lock has dedicated years to the arts and is constantly seeking new and innovative ways to develop her ideas.

" My oil paintings are personal interpretations of  land, sea and sky. As a way of anchoring the elements to a human presence, maybe the occasional building.

I live for part of the year on a small island in Greece and it's good to compare the extremes of colours and light. Both equally inspiring.

I try to record the moment. A journey or a sense of the landscape sometimes stirring memories and ambiguity.  A puddle may become an ocean, a row of young trees a cemetery. Peeling paint on an old

decaying door in Greece reminding me of a sunset.

The recent series of paintings and prints 'Grasses' and 'Earthworks', were produced during the first Covid lockdown.

Lockdown, a short film,(see below) was completed in 2022.

From watching shadows thrown by the extreme sunshine in Greece, I have recently been putting some ideas on film. Most recently working in collaboration with my grandson, Christopher Lock, studying electroacoustic composition at Harvard.  Our most recent film "Learning to Breathe' was on show at the 2019 Venice Bienniale.

"Chasing Shadows", is currently being screened at Jeju National University. South Korea.

Although exhibiting widely Chris now works largely to private commission.

The selection of sold and for sale work are pieces produced since 2016.

In April 2019 I was invited to take part in a one month  Artist's Residency in Messejana, Portugal.

In May 2019 two pieces of my work were shortlisted for the RA Summer Show.

In September2023 I was invited to take part in a two week residency at Studio Faire, Nerac, France

In May 2024 I will be starting a three week residency at  Skop Art Foundation. Skopelos. G
